Top 5 reasons to buy Maruti Ignis

Yes, the Ignis is here and if you were waiting for this car to launch then the question is should you buy it? Below we list out top 5 reasons why you should.

Styling and personalization

No doubt one of the biggest talking points of the Ignis is its design which is in the same mould as the Kwid and the KUV100. It is a compact crossover and unlike the Baleno is devoid of curves. It has a length and width of 3700mm and 1690mm respectively. It is also shorter than the Baleno but the crucial differenece is the 180mm ground clearance which gives it the SUV stance. There is also body cladding all around along with roof-rails plus neat 15 inch alloys filling up the wheel arches. The shape is no doubt boxy but interesting and plus the build quality is among the best we have seen in a Maruti. The best part about Ignis is its personalization with dual tone colours plus roof wraps and interior styling options.

AMT in both diesel and petrol

This is the first time that Maruti is offering AMT in both diesel and petrol. There is a 1.2L, K-series petrol engine with a power and torque output of 83bhp@6000rpm and 113Nm@4200rpm while the diesel is the 1.3L Fiat sourced Multijet engine diesel engine with 74bhp@4000rpm with an utmost torque output of 190Nm@2000rpm. The Ignis comes standard with 5-speed manual gearbox and also has a choice of AMT gearboxes with both engines which are available in selective variants. The interesting thing is that AMT with both engines will only be available in the mid Delta and Zeta variants.

Efficiency

Both manual and AMT have the same efficiency figures which is one of the biggest advantages of an AMT gearbox. The petrol gives 20.89 kmpl while the diesel does 26.80 kmpl which easily makes it on of the most fuel efficient automatic cars below Rs 10 lakh.

Features

Features today are a big draw and the Ignis comes out with more than any other Maruti. There are four variants- Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha. Standard you get ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, Dual front airbags, seat belt pretensioner, body colored bumpers, ORVMs and door handles, power steering, A.C, internally adjustable ORVMs, central locking, front power windows while the top variants will get premium feature such as auto climate control, touchscreen infotainment system with mirror link, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, push button start, alloy wheels, rear parking camera etc.

Value

At Rs 4.59 lakh, the Ignis is cheaper than its direct rival. The top-end petrol manual is Rs 6.69 lakh while the AMT range starts at Rs 5.74 lakh for the petrol with around Rs 50,000 difference between the manual and AMT. The diesel starts at Rs 6.39 lakh. We would say the top-end manuals are a very good choice while the top-end AMT (ZETA variant) is perfect for those want an AMT option.
